“While no one can change

the outcome of dementia,

the right support can

change the journey.”

About dementia

Dementia is caused by different diseases that affect the brain. There are over 200 subtypes of dementia; Alzheimer’s disease is the most common of these. Some other common types of dementia include vascular dementia and dementia with Lewy bodies.

People live for many years after the onset of symptoms of dementia. With appropriate support, many can continue to engage in society and enjoy a good quality of life.

Dementia mainly affects older people, although there is a growing awareness of cases starting before the age of 65. After 65, the likelihood of developing dementia doubles  roughly every five years.
